UPDATED : iPad supplier says touch screen shipments 'on schedule'

    Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) Taiwan's TPK Holding Co., a supplier of touch-screens to Apple Inc., has been shipping products normally during the past month, the company's chief financial officer said Wednesday, amid media reports that the launch of Apple's new iPad tablet computer will be delayed.

"In the past month, there have been no delays in our shipments to our customers -- all of our deliveries have been on schedule, " said TPK CFO Freddie Liu at the company's first investor conference since it listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on Oct. 29, 2010.

Earlier this week, Yuanta Securities, a Taiwanese brokerage firm, said in a note the next version of iPad would be launched two months later than the seasonal schedule this year as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the constract maker of the new iPad, was facing production bottlenecks due to the device's new design, according to Reuters.

The iPad has been the bestseller in the tablet sector, selling nearly 15 million units in 2010. Apple is expected to continue to dominate the tablet market this year with a 70 percent share.

Worldwide tablet shipments are forecast to rise from 19.7 million units in 2010 to 66.6 million units this year and jump to 119.7 million units next year, according to the research firm iSuppli.

Dealers said TPK's touch-screen shipments to Apple accounted for 75 percent of the company's total revenue last year.

In 2010, TPK recorded total revenue of NT$59.599 billion (US$2.014 billion) , up 219 percent from NT$18.709 billion in 2009. Its net income grew 105 percent, from NT$2.317 billion in 2009 to NT$4.742 billion in 2010, resulting in earnings per share of NT$23.03.

As part of its effort to achieve vertical integration, TPK plans to increase its capital equipment spending to NT$20.3 billion this year, from NT$9.4 billion in 2010, to expand its production of touch sensors, cover glasses and panel lamination. (By Jeffrey Wu) ENDITEM /pc
