Pirates Capture Kuwaiti Oil Tanker

Pirates are reported to have seized a Kuwaiti-owned oil tanker in the eastern Gulf of Aden.

The European Union's anti-piracy force says pirates firing small arms and rocket-propelled grenades attacked and captured the MV Zirku Monday.

A statement says the ship was carrying 29 crew members, including 17 Pakistanis and nationals of seven other countries.

The tanker was traveling from Sinagpore to Sudan when attacked. It was not immediately clear whether it was carrying any oil.

Pirates based in Somalia have received hundreds of millions dollars in ransom payments after hijacking ships over the past few years, including several oil tankers.]
