KAJANG (Feb 15, 2011): Two sisters, aged four and one, died after being allegedly fed poison by their 30-year-old mother at their home in Bandar Baru Bangi late yesterday. The woman, who police claim has a history of psychiatric problems, had also consumed the poison herself, but survived and is warded at the intensive care unit at Serdang Hospital. Kajang deputy police chief Supt Azman Ayob said the woman's husband, a 33-year-old barber had received a call at his workplace from his mother about 8pm, alerting him that his wife had locked herself up with the children in a room at their house. He said the barber rushed home and on failing to coax his wife to open the door, broke it down and found his wife and daughters unconscious. Azman said the man rushed his wife and children to a nearby clinic but the children, identified as S. Rashneka and her younger sibling Neharikalaxmi were declared dead on arrival. The woman was then sent to the Serdang Hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition. The bodies of her dead children were sent to the Serdang Hospital for post mortem. Initial police investigations revealed that the woman had mixed large doses of hypertension medication belonging to her father-in-law with milk before allegedly feeding it to her children and consuming it herself. Azman said police have classified the case as murder cum attempted suicide and have ruled out the involvement of any third party in the case. On Feb 8, a similar case took place in Seri Kembangan when a 35-year-old housewife allegedly tossed her five-year-old daughter from the uppers floors of their apartment at Kampung Aman on Jalan 6/1 killing her on the spot, before jumping to her death. The woman was also reported to have a history of depression and exhibited suicidal tendencies. -- theSun |
