Selangor needs auxiliary force to combat crime, says Khalid

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Government wants to set up its own auxiliary police force and has written to the Home Ministry for approval of the plan.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (pic) said in a media statement yesterday that there was an urgent need for an auxiliary police force due to the increasing crime rate in the state.
He said this had created concern among the people and the state government wanted to seek a concrete solution to counter the problem.
“I had written to the Home Minister (Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein) so that the state Government’s hopes of setting up an auxiliary police force will become a reality.
“The people’s safety is the state Government’s priority and there is no reasonable excuse as to why the Federal Government has to reject our service in efforts to protect the people,” he said.
Khalid said the latest incident where two security guards were hacked to death in Damansara Perdana and the case of an eight-months pregnant woman who was allegedly assaulted are reflective of the need for such a force.
He added that the state’s intention was to assist the police to carry out crime prevention and not to take over their duties.
According to Khalid the state Government had written to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Hishammuddin about the matter in July but had not received any response.
