Libya Launched Air Strikes On Rebels

Libyan forces have launched an airstrike against rebels who were moving towards city of 'Sirte,' cited by crew of AP television, on Sunday.

Sirte is known to be one of the strong hold cities of the Libyan leader Moamar Gadhafi. So far, the rebel forces have occupied the key oil port of Ras Lanouf on Saturday and now they were moving towards Sirte, in the west of ‘Tripoli,’ the capital of Libya and Gadhafi’s stronghold city.

So far there were news of intense gunfire and massacre around the east and west of Tripoli, which has been absolutely denied by the government officials.

The Libyan government says the gunfire heard in Tripoli is in celebration of the advance by government forces.

"I assure you, I assure you, I assure you, I assure you, there is no fighting going on in Tripoli," said spokesman Mussa Ibrahim.

"Everything is safe. Tripoli is 100 per cent under control. What you are hearing is celebratory fireworks. People are in the streets, dancing in the square."

He warned, however: "I would like to advise not to go there for your safety."
