Pakistan raised fuel prices by nearly 10 percent Tuesday, two months after a failed effort to increase prices.
The country's oil regulator said the increase reflects the global rise in oil prices.
It increases the cost of gasoline from about 85 cents a gallon to 94 cents a gallon.
The government had earlier announced that fuel prices would increase by as much as nine percent on January 1. But Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani reversed the decision days later, after the second largest member of his governing coalition pulled out, giving the price hikes as one of its reasons.
Pakistan is struggling to revive its economy, which is propped up by billions of dollars in loans from the International Monetary Fund. Devastating floods last year made matters worse, causing up to $10 billion in damages.
