Turks Protest Detention of Military Officers

Thousands of people in Turkey have protested against the detention of military officers involved in an alleged coup plot.
Wives of some of the officers joined the protesters, who chanted as they braved heavy rains Saturday to march to the tomb of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.
Turkish officials have detained more than 150 active duty and retired military officers. The officers are on trial for their alleged roles in a 2003 plot to overthrow the government.
Authorities say the alleged plot, dubbed “Sledgehammer” was an attempt to discredit the government and trigger a military take-over. If convicted, the officers could face up to 20 years in prison.
