Dior Designer Suspended After Arrest, Remarks

Fashion house Christian Dior has suspended its creative director, John Galliano, after he was arrested and accused of making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris restaurant.

French police say they were called to the restaurant Thursday where they found Galliano verbally abusing a couple. The designer was taken into custody and was determined to be legally intoxicated. He was released pending charges

The couple and other witnesses say Galliano made anti-Semitic remarks and slapped the couple.

In a statement, Christian Dior said it has zero tolerance for racist or anti-Semitic words or behavior. The fashion house said Galliano will be relieved of all duties pending a police inquiry into the incident.

The suspension comes one week before the company is scheduled to present its fall-winter collection in Paris.
