KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 22 (AP) - (Kyodo)-;The Libyan embassy in Malaysia became the latest to rebel against the Muammar Gaddafi regime when it sided with protesters and issued a statement Tuesday slamming the brutal crackdown on dissent in their home country.
"We, the ambassador, the diplomatic corps of the Libyan embassy in Kuala Lumpur as well as the students and the Libyan community here in Malaysia, we strongly condemn the barbaric, criminal bloodshed, massacre and the total elimination of our innocent civilians," the embassy said in the statement.
The statement was issued after some 200 Libyans living in Kuala Lumpur demonstrated at the embassy.
Sympathetic embassy officials allowed them to enter the embassy where they tore down a portrait of Gaddafi and stamped on it.
