Malaysia’s Defense Ministry has protested the capture of two Malaysian fishing boats by Indonesia’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry.
The protest letter was sent to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
“Two days ago Pak Mulya Wirana [deputy Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia] conducted a meeting in Putrajaya [a neighboring city of Kuala Lumpur].
“The Malaysian Defense Ministry handed over the note of protest there,” embassy spokesman Suryana Sastradiredja said Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Suryana said the letter mentioned that the boats were fishing in Malaysian waters on Malacca Strait, not Indonesian waters.
It also said that two choppers sent by the Malaysian Navy were forced keep clear of the arrest scene because Indonesian sea patrol officers threatened to shoot them with guns.
The embassy, Suryana said, had forwarded the letter to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in Jakarta and other related parties; and was awaiting their response.
